Apple’s Latest Battle, And One Mayor’s Fix

This week NBC pulled it’s programs off of Apple’s iTunes Store. While this may not be a big deal for NBC or Apple it’s a microcosm of the battle brewing between Apple and the movie industry.

Apple’s current battle with the record labels has been well documented. Apple maintains a $0.99 price for every song makes it easier for consumers the labels want to have pricing flexibility on their hot new artists. Apple has been fighting this for years and the labels cry foul ever time negotiations come up.

After music the next step was to put TV shows on iTunes. Which was mildly accepted. There’s really nowhere good to play the shows, computer or iPod are the only options. Consumers didn’t care all that much about downloading shows they can watch for free on TV or record on their Tivo. But when the movie industry gets involved the game changes.
